You can make sure it's 99 by finding it in specific hard areas (after and including Nightmare – Act 4: The Chaos Sanctuary, and some uberquests before) or gambling for it at level 120. Item level depends on the monster/map level when dropping, character level when gambling/cubing, and difficulty & character level when shopping. If an item is gained through a cube recipe, its output item level is capped between 1 and 99,īut some cube recipes can benefit from and use an input item level that is higher than 99.
